What is a revolving credit facility?
Revolving credit falls under the category of consumer credit, regulated by the Consumer Code. To improve borrower understanding, revolving credit, formerly known as a line of credit, can no longer be called that. This change was mandated by the Lagarde Law of 2010.
A revolving credit facility is a line of credit, ranging from €200 to €6,000, made available to the borrower. It is linked either to a bank account or a credit card. As its name suggests, it is renewable, meaning that the available funds, used by the borrower, are replenished as repayments are made.
Why take out a revolving credit line online?
A revolving credit line can be used to finance all kinds of projects, such as buying a household appliance, financing a vacation, or dealing with an unexpected expense. The simplicity and speed of the online process allow you to quickly obtain the necessary funds to make your projects a reality. An online revolving credit line offers a flexible and accessible solution. With the ability to manage your credit online, you can easily track your repayments and adjust your monthly payments according to your financial situation. You can compare offers online and find the one that best suits your needs and borrower profile.
How Revolving Credit Works
With a revolving credit facility not linked to a credit card, the funds are made available directly to the borrower’s checking account via bank transfer.
Revolving credit facilities linked to a credit card can be used to pay for purchases or withdraw cash from an ATM.
For any purchase exceeding €1,000, the borrower will automatically have the choice between a revolving credit facility or a fixed-term loan with fixed monthly payments. This allows them to compare the two options and choose the one that best suits their needs.
What differentiates a revolving credit facility from other consumer loans?
Unlike a revolving credit facility, a mini-loan allows you to borrow a sum of money that, once repaid, cannot be reused. This sum is fixed when you sign the contract, with a repayment period and interest rates defined in advance.
Our mini-loan solution allows you to borrow from €100 to €3,000 in just a few clicks and receive the money in your bank account 24 hours later. While our revolving credit facility can be spread over a period of 6 to 60 months, the Coup de Pouce mini-loan is repaid in 4 monthly installments over 90 days, with the first payment taken on the day you sign up.
Revolving credit facility or personal loan: what are the differences?
As explained above, a revolving credit facility takes the form of an available amount allocated to the borrower that can be spent in full or in part according to their needs. Repayments replenish the loan’s principal, allowing the borrower to access the funds again.
A personal loan with fixed repayments, on the other hand, is a one-time, one-time loan, better suited for financing a specific and expensive project (car, home improvements, leisure activities, travel, wedding, etc.). Unlike a revolving credit facility, where the interest rate can be adjusted during the contract term, the interest rate on a personal loan remains fixed until the repayments are complete. From the outset, thanks to the amortization schedule provided by the lending institution, you know the amount of each of your future monthly payments, as well as the total cost and the exact duration of your personal loan.
What are the requirements for applying for a revolving credit facility?
What supporting documents are required to apply for a revolving credit facility?
With a revolving credit facility, you are not required to justify how you use the borrowed funds. However, as with all consumer loans, the lending institution will ask you to provide certain documents to process your application, including:
- Proof of identity;
- A bank statement (RIB);
- – Information about your personal situation (income, expenses, family situation, housing situation, etc.),
- in order to determine the maximum amount available beforehand.
For amounts exceeding €3,000, proof of income will be required.
How much can I borrow with a revolving credit facility?
When you apply for a revolving credit facility, the lending institution will review your application to determine the maximum amount of capital that will be made available to you. In other words, the amount you can borrow depends on the extent of your financial resources.
Due to its ease of use, automatic renewal, and the increased risk of over-indebtedness, revolving credit is subject to strict legal regulations. At MsCredit, the available capital for revolving credit cannot exceed €6,000.
Is borrower’s insurance mandatory for revolving credit?
While revolving credit is a type of consumer loan, it is not legally required to be insured by the borrower. However, loan insurance is strongly recommended when borrowing a significant sum of money with a repayment period spread over several years. This insurance will cover your monthly revolving credit payments should unforeseen life events occur (unemployment, temporary disability, total and irreversible loss of autonomy, death, etc.).
